Desperately seeking Susan

Back in the olden days of IRC it was common practice for a “plant” or a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” to gain the confidence of many with the express purpose of undermining others. I have seen reference to this old ploy being used by some bloggers but I’ve never witnessed it personally. Well this is only a suspicion but it’s strong enough for me to state it publicly, not that my neighbors hear it or anything. Normally I would not consider posting my suspicion but Susan is one prolific commenter! Nearly all of her rants would qualify as a post on most blogs. That is not to say all she does is rant. One thing is certain, Susan is not ignorant and many of her questions are thoughtful and quite pointed but it seems she will only accept specific answers. Hmmmm.

Now I still hold to the possibility that Susan is genuine but at the very least I find her insincere. Her theology is clearly reformed yet she claims to be “learning” and is only asking innocent questions. Antonio has treated her with such disrespect and for this he should be ashamed! HA! Susan is about as helpless as a tiger. I had hoped to read her blog to try and discern what her real spiritual background is but alas, not post one! Not a single post, only hints that she may already be trained in “the doctrines of grace” which she may or may not be aware is country speak for reformed theology. Susan, are you for real? (For that matter am I? ;-)

Note: This is only a friendly challenge based on a suspicion I developed from reading the comments posted by Susan on some other blogs. No ill will intended and if I am wrong I will be delighted!

Casey,

I think that you are right.

On Daniel of Doulogos's post against Free Grace, he virulently attacked me. She was the first to say what a great post.

When I wrote a post on LS, where I did not name any names except a few authors, and I did not make it personal, she writhed.

It seems to be too good of a setup.

Casey P.I.!!

Did you notice her comments on my post from Monday? I was really being taken to task! I wonder if you are right? She seems very intelligent.

What's "IRC"?

Antonio you are certainly a hard headed intellectual type (which of course, among other things, endears you to me) but her comments were a bit telling.

Rose, it was her attitude toward you that actually provoked my suspicion. After the way she accused you of being biased and unfair I began to try to find out more about her. That's when I hit the wall information wise. There is no way to confront her or question her directly. She has no post and no Email address. Now that in itself is not just cause for suspicion but her ploy as being a "new" Christian coupled with some other comments sent me over the edge.

Internet Relay Chat. Chat is of course still popular but I swore it off long ago due to my "too quick to respond" with the truth, er, that is the truth without love. ;-)

kc and corry,
sorry this has nothing to do with your topic, just wanted to let you know that jody and courtney finally jumped the broom on saturday. it was lovely and funny as well. they both have a sense of humor. jody had her ring tied on a long piece of yarn and let it fall all the way to the floor. the crowd roared with laughter. then pastor dave ask courtney if she had a ring for jody, she said yes, but i don't have any string. ha ha. i thot' it was halarious. they both were so nervous. but yet you could see the love they had for one another. kc, it was so beautiful. wish you and corry could have been there. they are in costa rica now having all the fun. they will be back sun. thank you for befriending my "kids" she's mine now i guess. keep them in your prayers.
thank you and may God bless you and yours.

Zina thank you so much for the update. I remembered them and have been praying not only for the ceremony, but for the marriage too. I can just see Jody pulling that off and Courtney being so good natured about it. I bet it really was a wonderful event. Yes, you have a new daughter and I think many congratulations are in order. I am so grateful you've all been so blessed and for sharing that with me as well. I'm looking forward to their return and hopeful there will be lots of pictures posted soon. May God continue to bless you all. ;-)

I must admit the thought had never crossed my mind.

Myabe Susan is just someone who has read too much theology too quickly and it has gone to her head. Or perhaps she has spent too mcuh time reading bloggers like Pyromainiacs and Jonathan Moorhead and picked up some of their attitude.

If you are right, Kc, who is she? Phil Johnson?

Every Blessing in Christ

Matthew I really have no suspicion concerning who Susan might be. I am only convinced she is not the novice she claims to be and is not being forthcoming.

KC,
I must not be running in the same cirlces you do, because I have yet to see her... If she is a Calvinist, God bless her soul. But you know what we Calvinist are in the habit of saying about new Calvinist? "Lock 'em in the closet for about 5 years... then let them out."

We tend to be a bit zealous with our new understanding...

Titus every time you say that I laugh out loud. I suppose we all find ourselves in that position though. I don't think that's the case here. This person really is not a novice. ;-)

KC,
Interesting... I would have to see what it is that she is writing that seems to rub people the wrong way. But it's so easy to do on the internet... after all, we are dealing with "numbskulls." Right? Much to easy to think that... And we have the underlying sense of power sitting at a keyboard, knowing that all we have to do is share our wisdom, and all will fall into line after us. These computers will make dictators of all us if we are not careful.
Blessings again

Shawn you're a nice guy and I appreciate that very much. I have openly stated I am weird and I suppose I may also be a suspicious person. I am still certain she is not the novice she portrays herself to be although as I stated she may be genuine. I do appreciate your opinion on this.

Brian thanks and I would appreciate that too.

Shawn you have a right to your sensativities and I respect that. I do not take them lightly and I can only assure you I have no ill will toward anyone with my probe.

Rose I would appreciate your reasoning (no pun intended). Why would you hope this?

Jessica I'm truly sorry you feel this way. I have always understood gossip to be something done and said behind someone's back to hurt them. I would consider most of what I've said here rather flattering and none of it behind anyone's back. I do however respect your sensativities as well. I appreciate your opinion.

Shawn, I'm truly sorry that you and your wife are offended. I'm not sure if anything I would say could help you resolve your feelings on this matter. I assure you your opinion and sensitivities are important to me but I cannot allow you to establish yourself as my judge in either my heart or my writing. It may be that our approach to blogging, and in particular to bloggers who engage in discussions on theology is quite different. It is obvious you have missed the spirit of this article as it was intended to be very light hearted at the time I wrote it. I confess it seems that is when I am most apt to appear harsh in my words but my regular readers and friends are aware of this fact. Your insistence on portraying each of my analogies in a negative light has certainly tainted my original intent. For a theologian to be a tiger is no more a negative than for Antonio to be a hardheaded intellectual type. I consider them both compliments. When I say that Susan is not a novice and not helpless it only attest to her ability to carry her own in a discussion. The only thing I would consider negative at all is being insincere and I use that to highlight her approach to these discussions, which in my opinion is an accurate portrayal. The comment on her rants and the fact she has no articles posted is nothing short of a challenge to develop her own blog. If you still find all of this offensive then once again I am truly sorry.

KC, Sorry I got here so late. You have really dropped a bomb here. I am very curious now as to your theory?

God bless,

Jim you've single handedly rescued my sanity. I really thought I had lost my touch with this one. For anyone who reads on "both sides of the fence" like I do I think my reasoning goes without saying but for those who know me "jab" is the key word. I prefer that to the slash and cut method of pointing these things out. ;-)

good grief kc, did you post this so that you could get a bunch of comments? hehehe

I love ya brother. I know what spirit you are of and the spirit in which you posted this.

To any who read this late post of mine:

I have known kc on the internet here for almost a year. This man has never, I repeat never posted anything with malice or even the hint of malice or the hint of an unloving attitude about anyone.

Now I'm not saying he is perfect, the reason would be that he is not southern baptist.(hehe) But grace prevails where .....you know the rest of story.

ANYWAY

So give him the benefit of his history on blogging and what his words are in that history and doubt that his post here is with malicious intent.

Proverbs 18:24b to you my friend even if you are wrong,
but YOU ARE NOT WRONG HERE.
